Shamoy Simmonds is a London based photographer, filmmaker and content creator.
Shamoy's creative journey began in 2020 when she joined Ghetto Film School, an award winning organisation dedicated to educating and developing the next generation of storytellers. Whilst there she trained in the various roles within the cinematography department. At 17, she was the youngest member of the crew involved in creating a small budget production exploring a sensitive racial theme in Amsterdam.
Studying at BRIT school allowed her to train in diverse roles in the production process, including scripting, producing, directing, camera operation and editing.
In her final year at BRIT school, she curated and showcased her work in a photography exhibition delving into drug culture.
When Shamoy is not found behind a camera, she’s creating lifestyle content, primarily on TikTok.
GENRE: PEOPLE
This photoshoot is inspired by the Netflix series 'Self Made: The Life of CJ Walker' and the history of hair within the Black community. I was unaware of the rich history behind my culture's hair practices and educated myself by researching various hairstyles and their evolution to better understand the backstory.
